Checking for a new Ubuntu release No new release found And I had no success in running update-manager ; it kept throwing exceptions which I could not resolve. I suspect something is corrupted in my 15.10 installation, but the bottom line is that the built-in upgrades just fail.
For the recent Ubuntu releases, e.g. 12.04 onwards, once a new Ubuntu release is available, you will be prompted to upgrade. Once you click "upgrade" in the prompt, follow the instruction on the screen, you will be upgraded to the new release. If there is no prompt, you can check the following.
